Satay Chicken With Peanut Sauce Indonesian Bali

Satay Chicken is probably better known as Malaysian and Thai. But actually, it is originally from Indonesia. And as with all popular dishes from cuisines around the world, there are many versions of chicken satay. I’d like to share all the popular ones with you eventually – Thai, Malaysian and even the Singaporean version. But I thought it would be ideal to start with the original and the easiest – the Indonesian version....

Sauteed Sugar Snap Peas

It’s such a nice variation on eating them raw, and it’s a simple side dish that you can make in just 20 minutes! This is one of my favorite side dishes to make on a busy weeknight. It’s so incredibly fast and easy, and cooking vegetables in butter and garlic is always delicious. I’m too lazy to wash and trim sugar snap peas and remove their string, so I usually buy them stringless and ready to eat, which truly makes this a 10-minute dish....

Easy enough for midweek yet impressive enough for company, this crock pot pork loin is going to rock your world! I will do anything I can to try to convince you to try this, so let me say again: THIS CROCK POT PORK LOIN WILL ROCK YOUR WORLD!!! OK, I confess. I just like that it (kind of) rhymes and wanted to say it. Again. ? I’m done with the fun – now down to business!...

Spaghetti Bolognese Recipe

It’s funny, I experiment with lots of recipes for Kitchen Sanctuary, but sometimes it’s takes me ages to publish a recipe for something we eat all the time! Five years I’ve been at this blogging thing - and I’ve never posted a recipe for spag bol? Shame on me! We eat it so much, I can make this one with my eyes shut. Gracey makes it too (love it when she announces that she’s going to cook dinner ❤️️❤️️)....

Steak Sandwich

A big, juicy Steak Sandwich! There are sandwiches….then there are sandwiches. THEN there are SANDWICHES. This is the latter. I find it ironic that I call this a sandwich because it is about as far as you can get from the ham, lettuce and tomato sandwich that I slapped together to munch on as I was setting up to photograph these Steak Sandwiches. (And yes, I totally see how ridiculous it must seem that I’m munching on a basic sandwich when I have these in front of me but I was hungry, couldn’t wait until I finished shooting, and the last time I rushed photos because I was so starving, I wasn’t happy with them so I had to remake and rephotograph it....

Steak With Creamy Peppercorn Sauce

A steakhouse classic, this creamy pepper sauce with juicy steak is a match made in heaven. And it’s made with just 4 ingredients. Four. FOUR!!! Creamy Peppercorn Sauce – a Steakhouse classic Creamy Peppercorn Sauce was always my first choice at steakhouses which I frequented quite regularly back in my corporate days. Having traded in suits and heels for an apron, there’s no corporate lunches for me anymore. I make my steaks at home!...

Swedish Meatballs Homemade Ikea Meatballs

/cook Swedish Meatballs I’m that person who goes into Ikea just to pick up tea lights, only to emerge 2 hours later with all sorts of useful organisation solutions, looking for a problem to solve. I’m also that person who confidently puts together Ikea furniture (I’m a chartered accountant! I can do this!), only to worryingly end up with one leftover screw or bracket. Thankfully, none of my Ikea furniture has come tumbling down (yet), so now I have a theory that Ikea throws an extra piece into every flatpack just to mess with us....

Syrian Chicken

My blogs are usually upbeat and cheerful, but I couldn’t possibly share a Syrian dish without acknowledging the unrest currently going on in Syria. Syria is a country that has been at civil war for almost 4 years. And the most devastating of this war, as with any war, is the effect on the innocent. More than a quarter of Syrians – 4 million people – have fled their homes to seek safety in neighbouring countries....

10 Bite Sized Party Foods

The two boxes of Turkish delights, most of the Martini, half a chocolate Santa and the special box of Bendicks mints that were put away have been consumed already. I cannot be trusted with buying sweet edibles in advance. Ever. I also still haven’t completely finished my Xmas shopping (why are men so awkward! Yes dad - I’m talking to you x), I haven’t cleared all the junk out of the dining room (by junk I mean food photography props & backdrops and by dining room I mean the conservatory that barely fits our little family of four for a normal dinner - never mind inviting others round for a festive meal) and I have done zero menu planning for Christmas get togethers at our house....

Bacon Egg Cups Perfect For Brunch

These savory breakfast muffins are perfect for brunch, and even the leftovers are good! My kids adore these cute little cups. They love the fact that they get to hold their eggs and bacon in their hands and eat them as finger food! Eggs and bacon for breakfast is a fairly ordinary combination. But these delicious cups are far from ordinary! They are pretty, festive, easy to make, and super fun to eat....

Baked Chocolate Custard

It’s surprisingly easy to make, and it’s definitely one of my favorite chocolate desserts! Do you love chocolate? I think most of us do. There’s something about it that’s more than its sweetness. People really do crave chocolate. It’s no wonder I have so many chocolaty desserts on this website! From chocolate pie to chocolate cake, and even - for my snack - chocolate yogurt. I love them all. But this custard is one of my favorites....

Baked Mushroom Rice

The idea behind this recipe is that the gorgeous mushroom juice drips into the rice as it bakes – the best broth base ever! Incredible, super easy mushroom recipe! I think the two most common recipe questions I get are: Can this be made with chicken breast? (Hands down, the most asked 😂) Can this be made in the oven? (Followed closely by the 3rd most asked question: Can this be made in a slow cooker?...

Blueberry Cheesecake Bars

I have THREE versions for you to choose from – a No Bake cheesecake made without gelatine, a baked creamy one, or a light-yet-creamy New York Cheesecake cheesecake style. This is an epic post! Blueberry Cheesecake Bars! I kid you not, I think I made about a dozen batches of cheesecake bars over the past 6 weeks or so since blueberries started appearing in the stores here in Sydney. You might think I’m turning into a mad baker, but I swear that’s not it (wait – maybe I am)....

Excellent way to make use of leftover bread. Make it now or leave it overnight, then just pop it in the oven the next day! Breakfast Casserole – Strata Cake! Cheeseburger Party Meatballs

It dawned on me the other week that I haven’t shared a fun recipe in quite a while. “Fun” being things like bite size French Toast Bites (have you tried them?? They’re fabulous – and fast!), Mini Potato Gratin Stacks, Mini Pizzas made in Garlic Bread Cups. That sort of thing. Tasty, fun food. And these Cheeseburger Party Meatballs are the first thing that popped into my mind when I found a packet of beef mince in the fridge....

Cheesy Cauliflower Tots

It’s a tasty snack that you can feel good about enjoying. Needless to say, they are perfect for game day! I started making these tasty tots after my cheesy broccoli tots were such a hit. It occurred to me that I should make a version with cauliflower. So I did, and I think these are actually better than the broccoli ones. This is probably because cauliflower is milder than broccoli and very similar to potatoes when cooked....

Chicken Sweet Potato And Peanut Stew

The word stew generally evokes thoughts of cold winter evenings with the fire blazing. So you might think I’m a bit strange for posting this one in Spring. However, this is more of a light, nutty curry than a hearty-filling stew. Chicken, spices, peanut butter, sweet potato and a few other goodies, all combine to make a tasty dinner. I like to add a couple of red chilli peppers to mine to spice things up a bit, but if you’re serving this for kids, you can either: Whilst the peanut butter and coriander hint at a slightly Thai-flavour-inspired dish (Thai being one of my favourite cuisines - like this Mee Siam , Yellow Curry, Peanut Pork or this Laksa), it’s the addition of tomatoes, stock and sweet potato that really brings it closer to a more traditional African stew....
